About the Artist

Niharika finds joy in spotting the magic in mundane moments. She is a creature of leisure who enjoys absurd moments and dark humour, especially with a companion who sees it too! She loves waterscapes and trees and is deeply affected by the sense of place and the energy of a crowd in any given space. She brings these sensibilities to her work as a visual artist, art educator, and children’s book illustrator.

Our part of town is very built up. There are buildings everywhere, with a new addition – the metro. We saw the whole process from the start — the houses being demolished, the dust everywhere, the roads being widened, the Covid delays, and that awkward in-between phase where everything looked half-broken or half-built, depending on how you chose to look at it! A source of inspiration were the workers who were at it, day and night. For them, the show went on, rain lashing or sun blazing, long after the rest of us had turned off the lights. This is a moment in time in July 2021, four years before the yellow line became operational.

This is an art print. The original is in my A5 sketchbook, spread across two sheets and feels cinematic like a pan or a tracking shot, an interesting composition that I’d like to explore more in my sketchbook!
